How to Play Sudoku with Sushi: Sushidoku

SUDOKU - THREE PRIMARY RULES:

  • Each row must have only one of each type of sushi.

  • Each column must have only one of each type of sushi.

  • Each Nonet ( 3x3 sub-grid of 9) must have only one of each type of sushi. Nonets have a black outline.

Below: A Row, a column, and a Nonet (3x3 sub-grid).

WINNING SOLUTIONS

Fill the board with sushi to win the game. If you match the original board set that was used at start, it is a win.

Traditional Sudoku boards have one solution, this game supports multiple solutions. If you successfully find an alternate solution and solve the board that meets all Sudoku primary rules, it is also a win, and you will be awarded more points, because the shimmer system does not check against alternate solutions, so it is more difficult.

RESTAURANTS

The selection map has a variety of restaurants to choose from. Restaurants have difficulty from 1 to 10.

Difficulty determines how many clues you are given, higher difficulty restaurants will give you less clues at the start of the game. The difficulties are color coded.

Green: training

Blue: Beginner

Yellow: Intermediate

Orange: Difficult

Red: Master

Purple: Epic

Chef’s have a patience rating which also ranges from 1 to 10. Chef patience determines how many errors you can make. A chef will lose 1 patience point if you insert a sushi that breaks any of the Three Primary Sudoku Rules. It does NOT matter to the chef if the sushi you entered matches the solution or an alternate solution. When the chef runs out of patience, it is game over and he will kick you out of the restaurant!

After selecting a restaurant, you must pick 9 sushi when entering the restaurant, before the game will begin. Choose from a wide variety of lubricious and tasty flavors to produce the incurious mouthfeel of your choosing.

SHADING SYSTEM

When selecting any tile, the shading system is designed to help you quickly scan the current row, column, nonet, which are shaded in grey.

When selecting a region occupied with a sushi, all other regions on board with identical sushi are highlighted as well, to help you determine if that sushi is complete, with one sushi safely in all 9 nonets. Notice how the white Onigiri are all shaded, this is a useful too for clues. It is an important strategy to not only look at spaces that you need to fill, but pay attention to what clues are there, which cancels out open spaces.

In the image below the green Caterpillar roll is blocking out the spaces marked with red X, so the only available space would be one marked with the green checkmark.

SHIMMER CHECK SYSTEM

For those who do not wish to use the note system, we have added a board hint system called The Shimmer. It is not just effect graphics, it is a strategic tool for you. Unlike the chef patience, the shimmer system shows effects ONLY if the sushi you entered matches the final solution exactly.

The shimmer system displays graphic hints on rows, columns, nonets, or similar 9 sets.

For a basic example, you may have a row with 2 spots open. Putting the 2 remaining sushi may not break a Sudoku rule, so the chef will not care, or lose patience no matter which of the 2 you insert into either open space. However, when you insert the 2 sushi in the correct order, the Shimmer system will show effects on that row, indicating that it is the exact solution for that row on the final board.

When combined with the chef patience system, you can develop strategies to solve any board using patience and the hint system.

NOTE SYSTEM

If you like making notes of possible sushi in a given space, called a candidate, you can use the note system. The chopsticks at the bottom of the game screen will toggle notes on and off. Sushidoku supports 4 notes maximum per space.

To insert a note, enable notes mode after selecting a blank space. Then tap the sushi from the bottom toolbar to insert a note. Tap any existing sushi note on the sushi toolbar again to remove it from currently selected space.

Notes are 100% self managed. Once a real sushi is inserted into a space in normal mode (notes off), notes for that space are no longer visible, but they are still saved in case you decide to remove the sushi.

STRATEGIES

  1. Don't just look for spaces, use the items on the board (clues) to determine what rows and columns are already used by a given sushi.

  2. Use highlights, shimmer, and patience to your advantage, it can help you avoid a game over. If there are two spaces on a row, with two candidates, you can insert them and the shimmer system will tell you which combination is the correct match to the original board. If there is no shimmer, you can use this to find alternate board solutions, which are more points.

  3. Use notes, there are many online resources for using notes to solve high level boards, with very effective strategies as well.

SUSHINKO

Sushinko is based on a popular Japanese arcade game called Pachinko, but this is with Sushi.

Rules:

Each Sushinko board has 3 pockets, you must match all three pockets with identical balls to win before the timer runs out.

Tapping, touching or swiping on any popper balls will launch them straight up.

You can try to skill shot them into the pockets, or but it is best to use a mixture of lots of ball motion to knock them into the pockets.

If you you match three of an item you are trying to unlock, the item will be permanently unlocked for you..

If you choose not to unlock items with Sushinko, you can also watch an ad, which will support the development of this project.
